Our first design ‘bear fruit’ is based on the words of Jesus as recorded in John 15 where he also says the following;
“Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.“
(John 15:4 NIV)
We cannot do anything fruitful by ourselves if we are not rooted in God. It is only when we fully depend on the Lord for strength, energy, ability and motivation, that’s when we are able to bear fruit that lasts. The bible says the fruit of the spirit is ‘love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. (Galatians 5:22-23)
These qualities can only be cultivated in the presence of God through prayer, studying the Word and really connecting with Him. In other words, you cannot achieve these beautiful qualities by yourself.
Let this be a reminder that, no we are not “strong and independent”, we cannot and should not want to “do it all by ourselves”. We are branches that rely on the vine for our life. The more dependent on Him, the more fruit you will bear.
