We are a team of friends and siblings (in Christ), born and raised in the Netherlands and attending church in Amsterdam. We are passionate about Jesus and empowering Gen Z to bring His kingdom on earth. Of course, we also love fashion and believe it’s a fun way to express yourself.
One fateful day in the summer of 2022, one of the team members was complaining to God about how they are so sick of meaningless slogans or phrases on hoodies and T-shirts and how it’s hard to find ‘cool’ christian clothing. We believe that in response, the Lord said something along the lines of ‘Then why don’t you do it yourself?’.
So we said ‘bet’, and you’re looking at the result of this conversation with God. He brought us together to birth a new vision, which is to create clothing that makes christians proud to bear the name of Jesus wherever they go.
We believe that every little detail in our life can be used to glorify our God, so why not the way we dress?
Our name ‘countercultural’ is inspired by a video of Calvin Robinson, who once said ‘christians are naturally countercultural’. He said this while defending biblical views on marriage. He got cancelled by society of course, but his statement rings true.
The bible says “do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” (Romans 12:2).
As christians, we constantly have to balance this tension of being in this world but not belonging to it. We see a generation having to figure out how to navigate the culture around us and how to be a christian within it. Too often we shy away and don’t engage, we hide in our own bubble.
But we believe we have been given the authority to move within our culture, to influence it. We are called to bring Kingdom culture here on earth.
Our designs are based on the bible, the source of our inspiration. There is something so wonderful about wearing a bible verse on your back. Our prayer is that our designs spark conversations with strangers and that it reminds the person wearing them what God is saying in His Word to us.
In short, be an ambassador of Jesus wherever you go, and dress like one!
Our prayer for you:
‘Lord Jesus, thank you for who you are. Our wonderful God, who delights in us and wants to be with us more than anything. Thank you that you care about every little detail of our life. Thank you for your character, thank you that you’re never irrelevant or boring. Thank you that you are the first and best artist and that you love to create with us. We ask that you bless every one who wears our pieces of clothing, may it be part of their spiritual armour. May they feel passionate about you and find joy in your name. We pray for more boldness Lord, may they walk around unashamed and proud to be your children. We pray that our brothers and sisters will not be afraid to have biblical values, though they may be countercultural.
We pray that the clothes will catch the attention of strangers on the street and that it will create opportunities to share their faith so that your kingdom may come on earth. Thank you that you will have your way.
